Our workshop programme is designed to help participants to enjoy and improve on their landscape photography. Most are one day only, although we are now offering some that include an overnight stay in Whitby, allowing participants to spend a valuable dusk and dawn out taking pictures with Joe. Group sizes can vary from ten twelve, five six, or even individual and this is reflected in the price. Most workshops are led by Joe, sometimes with expert help from Nigel Halliwell. Our exhibiting photographers may also lead workshops, usually with Joe s assistance. They bring specialised knowledge and experience, such as the use of the pinhole camera, or shooting black and white, or with colour negative film. A workshop day typically starts with a get-to-know the group session in the gallery, in which amongst other things we brief everyone on the fieldwork to come, and ensure all are familiar with their camera and tripod. Weather permitting, fieldwork is the heart of the workshop day. We may visit two or three spots in North Yorkshire the Moors and Dales both being accessible from Northallerton in order to test our skills on location. Joe encourages participants to look at the full range of the landscape, from the smallest details to the widest vista, emphasising the importance of seeing, of light, and of composition.
