Sports photojournalism images and tips and techniques for sports photography by Jerry Lodriguss Also known as The Prince of Darkness , Jerry was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is descended from the Cajuns and Creoles of the bayous of southern Louisiana. His ancestors, Spanish immigrants called Isle os , came from the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa, and settled on the islands at the mouth of the Mississippi river during the American Revolution in the 1770s. When he was twelve years old, he was a member of the New Orleans Recreation Department Biddy Basketball All-Star team that won the 1st World Biddy Championship in an international tournament played in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He also played on his high school s baseball and basketball teams. Astonishingly, in basketball, he had a longer hang time compared to the height of his jump than Michael Jordan. A promising athletic career was cut short however when he started growing wider instead of taller after high school. While studying journalism at Louisiana State University with the intention of being a writer he discovered his love for photography after buying a camera to take photos through his telescope. He was later graduated with a degree in communications from the University of New Orleans where he studied film. His professional career began in 1974 working part time shooting high school sports for 5 per picture at a small suburban weekly newspaper in New Orleans. He then worked as a staff...
