My passion for photography began over 20 years ago when I purchased my first SLR camera the Minota 7000 . I soon realised that there was more to photography than the camera. The work of Ansel Adams inspired me and this was the direction I wanted to go. Black and white photography soon became an obsession and a darkroom was constructed where I would spend many hours practicing the art. I studied and learnt the zone system which I still apply to this day. Photography has made me view the world in a different way and beauty can be found in almost any subject. Capturing this beauty is not always easy and many visits to a location are sometimes needed to capture the magic moment. I have several cameras from 35mm to a 5x4 view camera. The Mamiya RB67 is my favourite camera which is now used for most of my work. I like the slow methodical approach of medium format photography and being alone in the landscape with my camera is magical. Many hours have been spent in the darkroom over the years and this experience is now helping me create my images in Photoshop. The images are scanned to Photoshop then burned and dodged with maybe a touch of contrast control. Prints are produced with an Epson R2400 printer using the latest K3 ultrachrome inks on to Innova art s museum quality paper which has the feel and look of a darkoom fibre print.

Some experts believe that the United Kingdom is host to more ancient trees than any other European country yet many woodlands remain under threat. All trees, young and old are worthy of our attention, care and admiration for their beauty. Being amongst trees can inspire a wonderful sense of calm and connection with nature. They invite contemplation and bring peace to the soul. Whether they are young or mature, trees exude a gentle, quiet energy and stillness that pervades their surroundings. They have a presence, and in certain lighting conditions, the atmosphere around them can seem to become heightened to the point, where there is a tension in the air. There can be a sense of anticipation, a silence and pause, as when a musical conductor raises his baton to prepare the orchestra, but there is as yet no sound.
