Actors and musicians are among those with whom I feel a special affinity, perhaps due to my knowledge of timing, breathing, phrasing and movement. This awareness helps me "see" what's happening in my own particular way – and to deliver dramatic photographic images to those who use my services. The International Society of Bassists has called me to be their official photographer for the fourth time for their Oklahoma City Convention. These ultra–lively bi–annual gatherings bring together nearly 900 of the world's best double bassists. I'm brought in to shoot the week’s final concerts. Working in such circumstances – often fast–moving and wildly exciting – suits me just as well as the calm of a studio environment. Also, for nine years, I was official photographer for a show that grew to become a unique New York Christmas event: The Jazz Nativity. Each year, many of the same great players and singers came together for this special production, under the direction of Anne Phillips. As a result, I had opportunities to capture exciting images of such greats as Harold Nicholas, Lionel Hampton, Tito Puente, Clark Terry and Jackie & R

What I like to do is tell stories. Whether that be with editorial, commercial, or journalistic intentions, I am always looking for a dynamic, resonating, and memorable way to tell the story. It is with candor, humor and a sense of humanity that I approach each project. I truly enjoy meeting and working with people. This sense of collaboration, collusion even, is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work. I tend to work digitally, but am equally comfortable shooting film. When pulling the story together, in one crystallizing image, or in a connected series of photographs, I constantly strive to push beyond what is expected.
