I have always had a love for art and people, constantly drawing and entering my work in local art competitions during high school. But I never felt as if I could express myself emotionally through my work. It was almost as if my soul never quite became integrated with my art. But then I discovered photography in early 2001. I quickly purchased my first single lens reflex camera, an Olympus OM-2. Almost overnight I realized that through the medium of photography I could explore the world in a brand new way, under a different light, and through a new eye each time I picked up my camera. Very quickly I began making black and white photographs of normal objects taken at unusual angles in interesting light, usually very close up. These early pictures are important to me because they were necessary to develop the photographic eye that I have been cultivating since I took my first thoughtful photograph. I soon bought black and white darkroom equipment and began to print my own photographs. This added a new level of excitement and control to my love of photography. At that point my passion for the craft was unparalleled to anything I d ever been involved with in my life. Light became my love. I began Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in the fall of 2001 and decided to major in photography.
