Chad Lancaster: Capturing The Spirit Of Our Nation's Beauty - Redondo Beach, California USA

Chad Lancaster: Capturing The Spirit Of Our Nation's Beauty - Redondo Beach, California USA

Each Limited Edition photograph was shot with a massive 4x10 inch view camera. Specifically designed and built for Chad by the Ebony Camera Company in Japan, the camera itself is a work of art. This one off camera was made to produce the highest quality panoramic images in the world. The 4x10 produces an image 30 times that of a traditional 35mm camera. This translates into an image of unparalleled sharpness and tonality. Think of it this way. to produce a 5x7 inch print from a 35mm camera is equivalent of a 50 inch print made by the 4x10. Every blade of grass is tack sharp. Chad prefers his images printed big saying " It helps the viewer lose themselves in the image, it makes you feel like your standing right there". Shooting with the 4x10 is by no means an easy process. The film itself has to be hand cut sheet by sheet from 8x10 stock in a light sealed room. He often hikes upwards of 30 miles in temperatures ranging from well below zero to over 100 degrees with his camera bag weighing over 75 pounds, just to get the right image. In the end Chad feels the beauty of the final print far exceeds the stress of carrying a heavy bag.
