A series of events featuring VR panoramas from around the world. Part of the Geo-Images Project University of California Berkeley. The World Wide Panorama began in March 2004 and has become an ongoing series of events. Photography takes place on the solstices (longest and shortest days of the year) and equinoxes (day and night of equal length). Photographers all over the world are welcome to participate.A VR panorama (VR for virtual reality) is a specially created computer image that goes all the way around the viewer. It is a revolutionary way to document a particular place and time – the next best thing to being there.VR panoramas are interactive.Use the mouse to rotate the panorama, use Shift and Control to zoom in and out. .... Das World Wide Panorama wurde im März 2004 zum ersten Mal veranstaltet und hat sich zu einer laufenden Serie entwickelt. Fotografiert wird jeweils zur Sonnenwende (kürzester und längster Tag des Jahres) und zur Tag-und-Nachtgleiche. Fotografen aus der ganzen Welt sind herzlich eingeladen, daran teilzunehmen.Ein VR Panorama (VR für Virtuelle Realität) ist ein im Computer aus mehreren Fotografien erzeugtes Bild, das sich rund um den Betrachter erstreckt. Es ist ein revolutionäres Verfahren, um einen bestimmten Ort zu einer bestimmten Zeit festzuhalten - fast so gut, wie selbst dort zu sein.

The directory now has links to more than 30,000 panoramas. In 2002, Hans added a new feature the fullscreen panorama of the week which quickly became a regular destination for hundreds of thousands of viewers. Hans strives to bring newsworthy photographs, like the Top of Mount Everest and New Year s Eve at Times Square, to the Internet community at large. You keep the copyright of your photos. The photos are published resized but with no other modifications. It is free and will stay free ! Most of the photo sharing applications have their photos organized by keywords. Panorama Explorer takes a step further. Searching is now possible on a 2-D map. To make this possible, the photos have to be positioned with the appropriate coordinates. Therefore the geographical environment becomes a very important keyword . Just think about it : buildings in Helsinki look quite different to those in Paris. Users of Panorama Explorer are able to group a bundle of photos and view them in a slide show. Those slide shows can be stored and requested from any browser on the internet. The application provides the appropriate editing functions to manage them. Last but no least - this is a very ambitious goal. But some time in the future, Panorama Explorer will be able to provide photos from any spot of the earth.
