Many of these images were previsualized, and then stalked, sometimes over several seasons, just as a hunter pursues prey. Some were chance encounters, the serendipity sublime. These moments where all the right conditions intersect are fleeting; most will never be repeated. My best efforts to recreate favorite images done years ago on small film have been largely without success, but have led me to wonderful new scenes none the less.

From the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Great Smoky Mountains, there is a vast diversity of landscapes & flora to explore. For the past 15 years I have been experimenting with photography. Nature wildlife and landscape photography from the Appalachian Highlands region. Browse the photo gallery and purchase fine art prints from the photographs of Jeff White. The eastern United States holds a natural treasure that many take for granted. The landscape today looks much different than it did ages ago, when the Appalachian Mountains towered to heights approaching that of the modern-day Himalayas. Today, the world s oldest mountains are much less formidable but are no less breathtaking. Diverse landscapes and wildlife have inspired photography and art in general for many years. Jeff White lives in northeastern Tennessee, the heart of what has come to be known as the Appalachian Highlands. While you will find photographs on this site from other parts of the country and the world, the vast majority of Jeff s work focuses on the region of the country where he has lived and been inspired throughout his life.

The role of economics in the decline and recovery of endangered species. Wildlife photo gallery featuring animals from Africa Australia New Zealand and North America. This site is devoted to the role of economics in wilderness and wildlife conservation. In the past, research in ecology and conservation biology was seen as the key to saving declining populations of species around the world. However, conservationists are now growing ever more aware that those fields cannot succeed without dealing with the social, economic and cultural problems of people who live in and near wilderness areas. If we want to save wilderness areas and wildlife, we had better start paying attention to the reasons people behave as they do. This web site will show you how economics can help us do that. One of the problems with current bioeconomic mo-dels is that they focus on a single species at a time. At first this may not seem like much of a problem, but it is actually quite limiting. For example, one thing that comes out of the elephant model paper is that when people decide what use to make of land they own, wildlife tends to rank low unless it is a profitable species to have around. In the absence of such a value for leaving land in wilderness, most people convert their land to its most profitable use, destroying species' habitat.A single species model can take that into account, but it cannot account for conflicts between species on land, such as between domesticated livestock and wild...
