Alternately, the trains Tranz Rail can also be used to travel between cities and is especially recommended for travel within the South Island. And when travelling between the islands, what better way than on the Interislander ferry. Most major cities are also very well connected by air, with most international flights arriving at Auckland and Christchurch international airports. You will find that the South Island is quite different in character to the North. Most of New Zealand s population is concentrated in the North Island, which makes the South Island perfect for those in search of solitude. It is also paradise for photographers and for those who have a keen interest in Photography. Simply pack your bags and camera and drive through the major cities or travel across to the west coast for a holiday you ll cherish for life!

Ron Willems photographic galleries Experimental New Zealand Landscape Girls

Numerous photographic galleries showing the work of well known New Zealand photographer and lecturer Ron Willems. Includes; experimental New Zealand landscape girls monochrome people USA Europe Asia Greece and Ireland. Ron Willems lives in Christchurch, New Zealand. Deriving his income from other sources, for him photography is an unpaid passion which started in his pre-teen years and developed rapidly. He became the youngest person in the world to be awarded his Associateship of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain at the age of twenty. Three years later he became only the fourth person in the world to gain his Fellowship of the Photographic Society of New Zealand. This was for his imaginative experimental photography, a passion he still pursues actively today. Later he was awarded the honour of Artist of the International Federation of Photographic Art for his extensive international successes. More recently he was awarded his Associateship of the Australian Photographic Society for his creative work in digital photography. Currently he shoots his all his photography with a Nikon D200, and Nikkor lenses. His digital work is either shown as projected images or produced as prints. In the past all his film work was shot using a Nikon F100 and Kodak transparency film and when not shown as slides, they are scanned on a Nikon Coolscan IV for printing or digital manipulation. While currently doing all his experimental work on the computer via Photoshop, his earlier experimental work was all done in the darkroom using film up to 4x5 inches to get high quality results. He has won the New Zealand Salon of Photography six times, has had over 40 major international awards and over 1,800 exhibits of his work in Australasia, Asia, Africa, America and Europe. In addition to exhibiting he has also judged extensively including national and international salons of photography. Over many decades he has had extensive involvement in all facets of the administration of photographic organisations and societies. Having held the various positions of competition secretary, treasurer, newsletter editor, international guest exhibit co-ordinator, Vice-President and President. In 1992 he produced The Willems Report at the invitation of the Photographic Society of New Zealand on the restructuring of the society. In subsequent years many of its recommendations have been implemented. He has also served on the Honours Board of the Photographic Society of New Zealand, which determines those photographers who should be granted their photographic distinctions. Currently he is the Chairman of the Selection & Grading committee of the Christchurch Photographic Society. His photographic work and articles have been published in books and magazines in New Zealand, Australia and the United States. Lecturing in a relaxed, informative and engaging style has taken him all over New Zealand, Australia and the United States addressing audiences of up to 500 people. A keen interest in all facets of life sees him travelling extensively with an involvement in photojournalism, landscape, model, nature and experimental photography. But more than anything he enjoys photography and helping others with their photography, it is part of his life and it allows him to see what a wonderful world we live in.

Born in Nelson, New Zealand, Phillip became interested in photography at a very early age and would often commandeer the camera on family day treks. Never satisfied with simple snapshots he was always looking for an image with a difference, testing everybody s patience in the process! Later, from his base in Indonesia, Phillip travelled throughout North and South-East Asia and Australia with a 35mm camera, but it was his visit to New Zealand in 2001 that convinced Phillip to move back to Nelson to pursue his passion of landscape photography. Wanting to produce images comparable to the natural view of the human eye Phillip chose to work with a specialist panoramic format camera. His ability to capture the heart of the land he photographs is beautifully portrayed in his images. I am always amazed at how much God has packed into this small country. The diversity of landscapes has to be seen to be believed. And I often get to have the place where I am photographing to myself; normal people are either still asleep or having supper. To get the light and weather exactly as I need it sometimes requires multiple shoots at a location, while other times I simply wait an hour or two for the illumination to suit the result I am trying to achieve. Watching the colours of land and sky transformed by the dawn and dusk twilights is an experience I never tire of. I hope you enjoy this collection of images.
