My inspirations do not just come from many of the great masters, but from the artists I have studied under during my education. I have also been fortunate to have a mother who also has a BFA from WSU. She was the catalyst for me to pursue my art degree, and is still painting at age 88. Besides my mother, the person who was an early mentor to me was artist sculptor Victor Vic Moore. He was my art instructor for six years in thePullman School District - when art was still considered curriculum. Most of my work leans towards Realism, and usually conveys an image of calmness or wonder. Though each painting, glass work, or photograph, has a special meaning to me, I want the viewer to walk away with their own emotions from the work - in this way they also become part of the creative process. Many artists are known for one certain style or subject matter. The search to create something different sometimes takes me across a wide variety of styles, medium, and subject matter. My latest art is primarily done using soft pastels, with my paintings being impressionistic landscapes and cityscapes. I ve also started creating glass paperweights. My painting, photography, and glass work, has brought about a much needed spiritual awakening to this artist s soul. My only wish is for my art to be viewed, absorbed, pondered and remembered.

Peggy Washburn s fine art is inspired by classical myth- ology, studies pertaining to memory and mathematical definitions. Major art collections have acquired her work including the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas, The Bibliotheque Nationale de France and The Ralph Lauren collection. Her work has been widely published, she s had numerous solo shows both locally and nationally, and has been included in exhibits at the Whatcom Museum in Bellingham, The Fry Art Museum in Seattle and Museo di Fotografia in Brescia, Italy. She is represented by The Benham Gallery in Seattle, and The Beacon Firehouse Gallery in New York. Although the art world keeps her busy, she still makes time for portrait commissions in her Seattle area studio. It wasn t always this way. She had been a fine-art Photographer, painter and mixed media artist for several years before Marita Holdaway of Seattle s Benham Gallery noticed her work in 1990, offered to represent her and invited her to join the gallery s Resident Artist program. Along with her fine art work, Peggy photographed her neighbors, rock bands, aspiring actors and models, attorneys and children -always children. When she became pregnant again in 1995, the need for a more flexible job led her to start making portraits commercially, and she began to focus on children. Yuko Ishii - a gallery of poetic and spiritual photo-based mixed media art & wildlife photography. I live in the foothills of the North Cascades in WA, where I have been strongly influenced by the ambience of the rural life. In nature I feel invisible things and hear beautiful sounds which I have never witnessed in city life. I have a keen interest in matters spiritualistic and psychological. When I photograph subjects, I try to communicate their spirits and look for the unexpected imagery that emerges from the activity of my subconscious psyche. It is the same process as when I interpret the dreams dream images are to be understood symbolically; that is to say, one must not take them literally, but must surmise a hidden meaning in them. The dream opens the way to inner sympathy and intellectual comprehension. Therefore, something unknown is what I always want to perceive through my art. My Journal and Story series explore themes of memory, dreams, paradox and symbolism. I wish to draw the viewers into my work, deliberately weaving many different narratives together. Each image contains some clues to the stories, but there is no explanation of the drama unfolding. No one reveals the hidden stories because this is not only visual but also poetry which has to be inexplicable allusion. My goal is to capture special moments in time and space that make one slip into a completely different world - images that evoke enigmatic emotions between real and unreal.
