The work is a deeply personal, subjective journey. I am interested in recognizing women throughout history. These women, whether they were famous, notorious, or capricious, all exemplified courage and faithfulness in their beliefs while overcoming immense obstacles in their factual or fictional lives. When I create each portrait, my intention is never to impersonate these women but instead to embody them. These images are never taken; instead, these powerful icons give them to me generously, and sometimes reluctantly.
