Marisol s photography offers sensuous and mystical interpretations of Southwestern land- scapes and traditional architecture. Marisol uses color and abstraction to intensify the emotional impact of her images. Her work reveals a fascination with surface and texture. Some images are digitally altered to enhance and reveal hidden emotional dimensions. She is likewise engaged with the organic qualities of adobe in interaction with light and the elements. Her interpretations of traditional architecture focus on the emotional dimension of buildings as depositories of memory. An avid world traveler, Marisol s documentary travel photography features the indigenous cultures, religious monuments and power sites of the Americas and Asia. Her academic training in Art History, specially Oriental Art, and lifelong interest in Buddhism informs her sensibilities and choice of subjet matter. Marisol also works in clay and paper. Her most recent work with paper collage vessels combines her photographic images, hand-made papers, natural objects, acrylic paint and varnish over papier mach . Her first encounter with the land and peoples of the Southwest some 25 years ago, was an intensely transformative experience, leading to her move from Florida to New Mexico in 2005.
