Costa Rica, Guanacaste has with approximately 10,000 qkm and about 270,000 souls many faces and a completely different way of life which can not be understood by all foreigners, and definitely not be taken over easily. The first humans, who entered Costa Rica thousands of years before Chr., arrived on the peninsula of Nicoya. During the colonial ages, Guanacaste was not a part of Costa Rica. The inhabitants of Nicoya, Santa Cruz, and Ca as decided that they did not want to belong to Nicaragua but to Costa Rica and they announced their Annexion on 25 July 1824. Until today the 25 July is Independence Day, which was accepted from both sides in 1821. Nicoya is regarded as the oldest city of the country by many experts and is the commercial center for the beaches, the national parks of Guanacaste as well as its important tourism zones.

My name is Martin Wierzbicki and in June 2000 I left behind my job in New York to travel around the world. Both travel and photography have always been important creative interests for me, and without the everyday pressures of work, I had plenty of time to take a lot of photos. This web site is dedicated to those photographs from my trip. My travels first led me to Africa, where I spent three months traveling overland by bus, boat, train and truck from Tanzania to South Africa. Next, I touched down in South America, wandering from the beaches of Brazil to the southern tip Chile over the course of two months. After returning home to spend the holidays with my family, I set off again for Asia.
