Ed Rhodes Photography, Cheshire

Ed Rhodes Photography, Cheshire

Ed Rhodes is a Cheshire based photographer with a particular interest in the landscape of the UK. Born in Ramsey on the Isle Of Man, Ed was never far from the countryside and the wonderful Manx coastline. It was not until March 2004 that Ed first started to appreciate how beautiful the changing landscape and light around us can be. As well as landscape photography Ed is also interested in travel photography and has been fortunate to visit many European and long haul destinations including Thailand, Malaysia, Canada, Singapore, USA and Dubai. Ed has recently completed three photography and image software courses at South Cheshire College. The purpose of this site is to showcase many of the fine art landscape photographs taken by Ed in different areas of the UK. The varied landscape of the British Isles is stunning and two photographs taken in the same location can look completely different depending on the light and weather conditions. For this reason Ed shoots mostly around Sunrise and Sunset to capture the warm colours and the wonderful textures on the land that low light can produce. As you will see from the galleries, Ed covers a range of different locations from around the UK and overseas with particular emphasis on the landscape of Cheshire, Derbyshire and The Peak District. Ed also sells images through the stock library Alamy, and has supplied images to national magazine titles.

Photographs by Mike Cookson ARPS

Photographs by Mike Cookson ARPS

Photographs by Mike Cookson ARPS. Monochrome landscape images of ancient sites of the Hebrides Orkney and England. Colour photographs of Iceland. London based photography enthusiast practicing both silver-based and digital photography. Most of my work in recent years is monochrome but increasingly, whilst using digital capture, I work in colour. My principle interest is landscape photography especially in some of the remoter areas of the UK. In particular, the Western Isles and Northern Isles of Scotland provide a combination of dramatic landscapes, standing stones and other ancient sites which prove to be an irresistible draw.

Stephen J Gledhill - Entrance - Fine Black White Photography of the Land, Sea Sky

Stephen J Gledhill - Entrance - Fine Black & White Photography of the Land, Sea & Sky

Black & White Photography of the Land Sea & Sky from 5x4 negatives by Stephen J Gledhill - The Virtually Grey Gallery displays and offers for sale my photographic work. I hope you enjoy your visit. I would be very pleased to hear from you if you have any comments or questions, or if you would like to make a purchase. I ve worked for more than 30 years producing pictures almost exclusively in Black & White. The landscape is where I look for my pictures, but to say I m a landscape photographer is rather misleading. Whilst out walking I find many things to photograph. Most of my work is of components or elements of the landscape micro-landscapes rather the panoramas and vistas that landscape usually brings to mind. Trees, streams, fungi, clouds, rocks, reflections, patterns, water, grasses; in fact anything more or less natural that will stay still for long enough runs the risk of me pointing my camera at it. It s not uncommon for me to take an hour to make one exposure. If I make twenty exposures in a full day then that s a lot. Ultimately my criterion for taking a photograph is that the final image must at least have the prospect of being striking and frame-able in monochrome once the raw image has passed through my digital darkroom. You ll find a few exceptions to my natural subjects with the occasional building or other evidence of human presence here and there! I am not a landscape purist. Recently I ve come to enjoy photographing inside cathedrals, abbeys and churches. The natural lighting inside is particularly challenging but exceptionally rewarding. And there is one subject area that keeps me returning time and again. I can t resist the coast and sea shore as you will see when you browse through the gallery. This hasn t been a conscious decision of mine, rather it has dawned on me over the last few years that the coast offers an infinite range of possibilities and seems to act on me like a powerful magnet. For the last 10 years or so I ve been using a mahogany and gold plated brass 5 x4 field camera. Kodak s 100TMax in Readyload single sheet film holders is my preferred film which I process conventionally, usually in XTOL. Until about five years ago I printed all of my work in my own wet darkroom. I ve now converted completely to the digital production of my prints. I scan my 5 x4 negatives in 16-bit greyscale at 2400 d.p.i almost 200MB files or sometimes in 48-bit RGB at 2400 d.p.i. giving almost 600MB files! . Photoshop is my new darkroom . It has helped me to achieve that which I always found less than satisfactory in the wet darkroom, namely the carefully controlled enhancement of a print without obvious evidence of the darkroom processes. The large negative size and high scanning resolution up to 4800 d.p.i. means I can produce high quality images up to about 44 x 55 or more. Prints up to paper size 17 x any length I produce myself. Whenever I want larger prints I turn to a professional photo laboratory where they are produced to my precise specifications using identical materials to those which I use. Inkjet printing technology has progressed at such an unprecedented rate over the last few years such that now a carefully produced inkjet print is at least indistinguishable in terms of sharpness and smoothness of tone to the naked eye from a conventional silver print, and many would say better than . I now use Epson s K3 Ultrachrome pigment inks in an Epson 4800 printed with Epson s own printer driver plus ICC profiles created with QTR software from Roy Harrington see my Links . Printed onto carefully matched paper the results are stunning with the full deep rich black shadow areas through all shades of grey to clear paper-base white highlights; or toned to any hue required. The best ink and paper manufactures recognise the importance of longevity and it is now claimed that carefully selected paper and ink combinations now have a life of well in excess of 100 years

Catherine Ames : : Landscape Photography

Catherine Ames : : Landscape Photography

Beautiful strange exciting inciting landscapes by Catherine Ames. Large format black and white landscape photography. The background of my work is large format black and white landscape photography. After using the medium for over 20 years, and the loss of my darkroom, I decided to give digital photography a try and my style has changed dramatically to colour, movement, and breaking all the rules of traditional landscape photography. There are places that have their own distinctive atmosphere, their own mystery and history, their own story to tell. These are the energies I attempt to bring out through my own vision. The response to my new work has been very positive, as no one else, as far as I know, is using digital image making this way. All of my black and white images are made with a Crown Graphic 4 x 5 field camera. The 16 x 20 photographs are at a limited edition of 40. All of my color works are composites of 8 to 30 images, all taken in the same place, at slightly different angles.

Mark Sunderland Photography - Fine Art Landscape Prints and Greetings Cards

Mark Sunderland Photography - Fine Art Landscape Prints and Greetings Cards

As a landscape photographer, my goal is to convey my personal vision of the natural world. Beyond the technical aspects of photography, the challenge is to capture a composition of my chosen subject at the ideal moment when the natural light will help me realise this vision. In pursuit of my goal, I have photographed in Europe and the Americas for many years now, and have witnessed some wonderful lighting conditions, from the crisp clarity of the desert atmosphere in the western USA, to the dramatically changing light in the wild landscape of Patagonia or Iceland, to the soft diffused light of autumnal England. Mark Sunderland is a landscape and travel photographer based in Yorkshire, England. He has photographed extensively in the Western USA, Europe, Patagonia and England, paticularly Yorkshire. Abstract patterns in nature are a continuing theme in Mark s work, which has been published in magazines, and highly commended in the BG Wildlife Photographer of The Year competition for Composition and Form.

Quality Landscape Photographs of the Lake District and Solway Coast

Quality Landscape Photographs of the Lake District and Solway Coast

Lakeland Landscape Photographs by Martin King specialising in photographs of the Lake District and Solway Coast. am a landscape photographer based near Cumbria s Solway Coast and specialising in capturing the moods and stunning beauty of the lakes and mountains of Lakeland. This website provides a glimpse of some of the many photographs taken over the years by me in and around the Lake District, Cumbria s Solway Coast and the wonderful Scottish Highlands and Islands. Sadly, these photographs are no longer available to buy, but I hope you will enjoy perusing the website. The Lake District is rightly renowned as an area of outstanding natural beauty. With its mountains and lakes which have inspired poets and artists alike down the years, it cannot fail to impress. New visitors to the region are often stunned by the splendid scenery, and many people choose to return time and again, experiencing the different moods and changing seasons. The Solway Coast is not widely known outside Cumbria, but is a wonderfully varied area with its ports, villages and the views of the Solway. The Scottish Highlands need little introduction. The mountain scenery in Scotland is arguably unsurpassed and always inspires. I treat the subject of landscape photography and the presentation of my work as both an art and a craft. The whole process of printing, mounting and framing is very time-consuming, but it is also extremely rewarding. The finished article is something I take great pride in and should be enjoyed at leisure.

David Taylor Photography - Landscape and Travel Photography from the four points of the compass.

David Taylor Photography - Landscape and Travel Photography from the four points of the compass.

David Taylor is an award-winning landscape and travel photographer, who was born and raised in Newcastle upon Tyne. He turned to professional photography full-time in 2006, after 18 years as a graphic artist in the computer games industry. His first big commission involved compiling an exhaustive photographic record of the less beautiful parts of Barcelona underground car parks, office blocks, a prison ... , for the computer games company he had left only months before. He vows at some point to return to that ravishing city, in a bid to do it artistic justice. David s work has taken him all over the world, from the sun-kissed beaches and aqua seas of Zanzibar to the bright chill of the Arctic Circle in the depths of winter. He sees it as a privilege to be able to follow the career he loves while discovering new places and cultures across the globe. But his first love remains the wild countryside and rugged coastline of his home county of Northumberland, which he has photographed extensively. His work from this region has appeared in numerous national magazines, and has been used in publicity materials by local councils and tourism organisations. David s work is also used frequently by the Northumberland National Park Authority in its publicity and marketing materials. Away from his photographic career though rarely far away from his camera David lives on an exposed, north-facing hill, overlooking the market town of Hexham in Northumberland. He shares his life with his wife, Tania, and a cat called Eric. He and Tania were pursued up the street, and invited to delete these images and move on, by two very charming art critics, dressed in prison guards uniforms and armed with sub-machine guns. They decided to comply.
