This website is dedicated to the birds which find a niche in the in the wild and sometimes harsh environment which makes the Island of Skye so unique. Though many aspects of Skye s geology, topography, culture and history have been extensively studied, until now little has ever been published about its bird life. Tom Grey s Bird Pictures - Photographs plus a few Digiscopes

I m Tom Grey, a birder and amateur photographer living on the Stanford campus near Palo Alto in the San Francisco Bay Area. This site is my illustrated bird list, showing the birds I ve photographed since I took up bird photography in Spring 2002. I started out digiscoping just to have identifiable images of the birds I was seeing as a birder. But over time, I got more interested in the photography side, and switched to a digital SLR camera; most of the images on the site, and all taken since November 2003, are DSLR photographs. I ve been getting better equipment and I hope improving my skills as I ve gone along, so more of the pictures here are relatively recent. But since this is my visual list, I ll keep a so-so picture if that s the best I ve got for that species.
