Therefore, the photographs on display here try to speak of places that many would pass by without noticing, try to whisper in your ear the crushing sound of absolute silence one can only feel in the most remote places, try to relax you with the quieting murmur of a creek at sunset, try to trick your mind with the microscopic details of natural elements, try to make you smile with the improbable pose of an animal, try to convey all the powerful emotions that only nature s magical light displays can arouse. If, while browsing through my photographs, you can at least start to feel the majesty and grandeur of some of these places, then my work has succeeded and I ll feel accomplished as a photographer and lover of nature.

A collection of Nature, Wildlife and Bird images by photographer Dominick Spolitino. I earn my living as a guitarist and composer, but photography has evolved into a second career as well. It s a natural fit, and brings me to the places that I love. Much of my work is done in the Pocono Catskill region on the NY PA border in the Upper Delaware river system. This area is also known as the Allegheny Plateau and offers many opportunities to photograph birds and wildlife in their natural habitat. I also do a lot of work in the tidal marshland of the New Jersey coast, especially during the bird migration seasons. Photography has helped me experience the outdoors in ways I never imagined before. In a blind or just sitting quietly in the woods, things happen around you that you would never otherwise see or notice. The feeling of witnessing these quiet events and trying to convey that feeling with photography is what it s all about for me: The way light moves through the forest or over water over the course of a morning. Animals interacting with each other and their environment. Finding different perspective on a common scene. All these things are rewarding in their own way. A familiar place can hold a completely different experience every time you visit if you look deeply enough for it. The dark blue shade of the sky had brought my camera reflex into gear. Color is probably one of the simplest but vital reflections of the beauty that can be captured in a photograph. The lines to the right are from a poem called Blue that I wrote several years ago. Be free to take your shoes off and wander around here for a bit! My photography transition from hobby to amateur profession came with the purchase of a Canon Digital Rebel camera in 2004. It was difficult for me to leave the tradition of 35mm film behind, as I always considered that physical act of light and color being composed onto a negative to be a soulful experience. But in short time, the convenience of digital imagery took over. I now believe that it doesn t matter what form you use to interpret what s out there in the world. In the past I had a Nikon D70 and 3 more lenses, besides the one that comes with it. As of now I own a Nikon D200 with the 18-200 lense. I also have a studio and lighting eqipment now. Wallpaper will be updated frequently, depending on the time. For a while I ve been contemplating the idea of designing a website, and I ve already had a few test sites. My passion for nature photography began with a love for birds; I have been fascinated with them ever since I was a young child. I can remember watching through the window as they came to family feeders and learning to identify them using an old hardback Peterson field guide. As I grew up, I began spending almost all my spare time birding, learning to identify birds not only by their field marks, but also by song, behavior and flight patterns. I am a member of the American Birding Association, and the North American Nature Photography Association NANPA .
