Fine art black and white photography by Giedrius Varnas..... Places and objects in my pictures exist somewhere. The viewer can find them in the same way I have found them to take a picture. But it is not about documenting the natural world. I let myself to experiment with light and contrast freely to convey and strengthen my message. I still capture images on film. And I will continue to do so in the near future. Maybe some time I will decide to return to the wet darkroom again. You never know.

The kind of photography I do, and the one I most like, it s more objective and documental and less artistic as it is not always possible to bring those two aspects together. What I most like to photograph is living nature, in any of it s facets. But I don t like to think that I photograph only for myself, that wouldn t motivate me enough. Enviromental concerns are always present on my images, but instead of shocking with the negative side I try to impress with the positive and wonderfulness of each detail. It s my opinion that a subtle and more efficient way of educating is letting people know of nature in it s details, it s wonders, and not through pressures like You must do this and You mustn t do that . Bringing people closer to nature by showing it is a way for people to understand for themselves what can and cannot be done to preserve all the wonderful things that nature can show us and give us.
