World Press Photo entschieden

Aus 101.254 Fotos von 5.247 Fotografen aus 124 Ländern wählte die Jury das Foto von Samuel Aranda zum "World Press Photo of the Year 2011".

Das Foto zeigt einen Verwundeten, der in einer Moschee, die zu einem Feldhospital umfunktioniert wurde, von einer Frau gehalten wird. Die Aufnahme entstand am 15. Oktober 2011 während der Demonstrationen gegen Präsident Ali Abdullah Saleh in Sanaa, Yemen.

Der 1979 geborene Spanier Samuel Aranda arbeitet hauptsächlich für "The New York Times" und "El Magazine de La Vanguardia" und wird von der Agentur Corbis vertreten.

The Westchester Photographic Society is the oldest, the largest, and the friendliest camera club in Westchester County, NY. Membership is open to all photography enthusiasts, from beginning novices to professional photographers. Our members work in black-and-white, color prints, slides, video, and computer imaging. We are renowned for our unique "open mind" photography, which stretches the boundaries of our imaginations. We meet every Friday evening, 12 months a year (except on holidays and during blinding snowstorms). The meetings feature diversified programs: talks by experts, workshops, demonstrations, model shoots, member showcases, critiques, and monthly competitions. We also hold frequent exhibitions, go on field trips, and have great parties (we've been nicknamed the "Westchester Photographic and Eating Society).Our weekly meetings are on Fridays at 8:00 P.M. in the Technology Building of the Westchester Community College, Valhalla, NY. One of New York's oldest arts organizations, the Camera Club (CCNY) has been a home for photographers to develop their craft, providing both a working facility and collegial environment for discussion and the exchange of ideas. The Club is dedicated to continuing its long tradition of welcoming both photographers and devotees of photography and encouraging their participation through memberships, classes, lectures, exhibitions and residency program. Since its founding in 1884, the club has nurtured many talented photographers whose careers cover a wide range of disciplines, including portraiture, photojournalism, fashion, street photography, advertising, documentary and fine art. CCNY's complete archives are housed at the New York Public Library. Related collections are housed in the New York Historical Society and George Eastman House Library in Rochester, New York. This detailed record of the Club's history reveals a dynamic organization with a strong commitment to education and a heritage of showcasing the works of photographers known and respected worldwide.
