Harbour City Photography Club

Harbour City Photography Club

The Harbour City Photography Club currently meets on the 1st & 3rd Tuesday, of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, September to June, at St. Andrew s United Church, Corner of Fitzwilliam and Wesley St, Nanaimo. - The Car Park is on Wesley St which is one way. The Harbour City Photography Club began in 1991 in Nanaimo, B.C. It was formed when a group of friends placed an advertisement in the local papers to see if anyone was interested in belonging to such a club. The first meeting welcomed over fifteen people and the essence of the club was born. From the outset, club members worked together, sharing ideas, and sometimes-even equipment. As the members enthusiasm blossomed, so did the club membership. Within five years the membership was more than seventy strong. The photography of club members was equal to that of much larger clubs and the participation by members in club events was the envy of other clubs. The success of the Harbour City Photography Club can be measured by the longevity of its members. Many of those founding members continue their association with the club today. Others have moved away but they still feel connected to the club and try to stay in touch. A large part of the club s annual program is devoted to training. Through the years many talented guests and members have shared their knowledge and passion for photography. Over the years the club has produced annual slide shows featuring the work of its members. We have also successfully promoted and hosted shows by visiting photographers. We have been active supporters of the Kinsmen s Camera Swap Meet and we have produced a club newsletter that was distributed from Qualicum to Victoria. With the creation of a web page the club has moved into the electronic age and it is easier for people to find us and to view our work. As the club begins its next decade, we are again expanding our horizons. All of this is only possible because club members share the many tasks of making a club vital. The many...
