Ellis` Photomusings

Ellis` Photomusings

I started in the photo business some 38 plus years ago and the photographs you see here are the results of that time. Some were taken with film others digital, various cameras. I've shot with everything from Pen F to 8 x10 and larger, so I'm not real loyal to any one camera brand or type, after all I work for The Camera Center, and old fasioned camera...

As long as he can remember David has had a love for nature. Coupled with living by the sea, this led him to a degree in Marine Biology at Bangor University. As enjoyable as this degree was, he quickly realised that was not where his future lay. This is the online home of David Newton. David is the technical editor of CPN (Canon Professional Network) and a freelance technical photographic writer. He's also a professional photographer and a widely respected photographic tutor offering tailored 1-2-1 training and small group photographic tuition. Please use the links on the left hand side to navigate around the site. If you get lost at any point, the HOME button, in the bottom left, will return you here.

lenscape is a photoblog and a staging ground for my experimentations. I hope this site charts my growth as a photographer as I explore the world around me. I shoot primarily in film. When I do shoot in digital (almost never), I shoot in RAW mode (when I can) and am currently using Photoshop CS3 to process my photos. I use X-Rite's Eye-One Match to calibrate my monitor.I photograph because I have a passion for it. It's that simple.I have struggled in the past to find the right words to describe what drives much of my art. And then I read an article on the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi: finding magic in the ordinary...in the flawed. As Leonard Loren said: "Wabi-sabi is a beauty of things imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. It is a beauty of things unconventional." Wabi-sabi is what I seek when I explore an abandoned factory or walk the streets of a city or find a deserted house in a field.

“Since digital photography and photoblogging started getting popular in the late 90s, I suppose you could say that photography has just become more and more like itself.”

I am a 32-year-old freelance photographer living in Alabama with a graphic designer and seven spoiled brats cats. I took my first photograph at the age of three and got my first paying job as a reporter/photographer when I was 14. I double-majored in journalism and English in college, with undeclared double minors in psychology and French.
