Mary Virginia Swanson makes it her goal to help guide photographers towards the strengths in their work and to identify appreciative audiences for their prints, exhibitions, editorial and licensing placement. Swanson has a diverse professional background, having coordinated educational, publication and exhibition programs for a wide range of institutions and businesses in our field.Swanson is considered an expert in the area of marketing and licensing fine art. It was during her tenure heading special projects at Magnum Photos, that she recognized the opportunities for artists to develop second markets for their work and in 1991 she founded SWANSTOCK, an innovative agency that managed licensing rights for fine art photographers. Her seminars, workshops and public lectures on the subject of marketing opportunities have aided countless photographers in moving their careers to the next level. Swanson contributes articles to many print and online publications, including Photo District News (PDN) and PDNEDU, Digital Journalist, Nueva Luz, The Education of a Photographer and teachingphoto.com, among others in the U.S. and abroad. Hey, Hot Shot! -- supporting emerging photographers.
Jen Bekman opened her eponymous gallery in 2003 with the mission of supporting emerging artists and collectors: she's made a name for herself doing just that while furthering the careers of established artists as well. Hey, Hot Shot! is the premier program for photographers seeking greater exposure and recognition for their work. Our esteemed panel reviews entries from a diverse body of photographers from all over the world, culminating in the selection of five Hot Shots. The five selected photographers participate in a two-week exhibition at Jen Bekman Gallery. Kicking off with hugely popular opening receptions, these group shows are attended by collectors, critics and cognoscenti.

burn is an evolving journalfor emerging photographers. burn is curated bymagnum photographerdavid alan harvey. burn was launched as an online magazine/journal on December 21, 2008 and is a spinoff of my blog “Road Trips” which I started in December of 2006. The intent then and now is to provide a platform for emerging photographers both online and in print. This comes from a lifetime of mentoring photographers. I started teaching photographic workshops a year after I took one myself at the Universtiy of Missouri Workshop. I was a student at 21 and was teaching at 22.My whole philosophy of teaching and mentoring is based on the theory that I will be of most value to emerging photographers because I am very much a working photographer. I am constantly creating books for myself, planning exhibitions, printing for collectors, proposing and shooting magazine assignments, and do the occasional advertising shoot. Because of this NOW experience , it is quite easy for me to relate to the world of younger photographers who may benefit from my editing and expertise, yet know full well that I struggle with the environs of a fickle publishing world as do they.
