Standing in Ireland - Photographs by Dylan McBurney

Dylan McBurney lives with his wife Caroline on the doorstep of the Glens of Antrim in the North Eastern corner of Ireland. From there he explores his surroundings using his rangefinder cameras to record moments of extraordinary natural beauty, intimate landscapes and wider views of scenic grandeur. His work is held in private collections worldwide and has been exhibited on both sides of the Atlantic. These photographs are, to me, like dreams. Vivid recollections of forgotten places in the back of my mind. Places that I ll escape to when I need to get out of the urban jungle. What inspires me most is the constantly changing light that drifts across this part of the world. I grew up on a plateau of hills, above a large sea lough, where, with the city sleeping below, I could listen to the hum of the city, watch the light play on the surfaces and dream. My hope is that by creating individual pieces of art these photographs will also serve as a reminder of the powerful forces at work in nature. The camera is a time machine. We capture time, freeze it in an instant and preserve the light and its infinite nuances forevermore in a two dimensional representation of the real world. The act of photography transports the photographer and hopefully the viewer into another world. One in which time slows down.
