She developed a keen interest in photography in her teens, which became a passion when she travelled through Europe and Asia in her early twenties. Returning to Australia, Sue enrolled in a Bachelor of Applied Science Photography at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology now the University of Technology . After graduating, she worked for seven years as a Medical Photographer, during which time she received the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Silver Jubilee Award. All the while Sue pursued her love of landscape photography on weekends and holidays, inspired by the work of Tasmanian wilderness photographer Peter Dombrovskis and American black and white photographer Ansell Adams. Sue first worked on a large format Master Technika 5x4 camera, later adding a panorama camera to her equipment bag to record the sweeping vistas of the Australian outback. Sue has been working full time as a landscape photographer since the early 90 s, though she considers photography an integral part of who she is, rather than an occupation. Laurie McArthur - The Home Page of Wilderness Landscape Photography - Australia

Laurie McArthur - The Home Page of Wilderness Landscape Photography - Australia

Medium format and digital images of the wilderness landscape. Photography from the Far South Coast and Monaro regions of New South Wales and the South Australian outback, by Laurie McArthur. When someone excitedly tells me about their wizz bang long lens I can t help but think back to the Nancy Sinatra song of my youth These boots are made for walkin and that s just what they ll do. Long lenses and short lenses too, are useful for altering the mood of an image. If you need to get closer, then walk. There may be exceptions, but you ll seldom achieve outsting wilderness photography out of the car window. We all know you should never go bushwalking alone. However, most successful wilderness photographers are loners who can survive on their own and in fact perform at their best in solitude. See that you re well prepared with water, compression bandage, lighter and compas. Whenever you re out photographing the wilderness landscape, keep in mind These boots are made for walkin . Wilderness Photography is More than Point and Shoot I once asked a young woman who thought her photos were pretty good How do you capture a strong landscape image? Well, it s quite simple she told me. All you need is a foreground, a midground and a background. When I saw some of her images I knew that her formula didn t work. I do my best work when I isolate one element, to the exclusion of distracting bits and pieces, either by getting close or else by selective focus. I know people who carry a camera in...

Magic Hour Travelscapes -- Landscape travel photography by Kah Kit Yoong Winnie Ho

Magic Hour Travelscapes -- Landscape & travel photography by Kah Kit Yoong & Winnie Ho

KAH KIT YOONG Born in 1973 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Kah Kit Yoong is a Melbourne-based photographer. A doctor, by profession, he discovered photography in 2005, when visiting Cradle Mountain National Park in Tasmania, Australia. He immediately realized the limits of his point-and-shoot digital camera when it failed to capture anything of the grandeur of this landscape. Later that year, armed with a digital SLR, a 4 month trip to Europe with Winnie Ho provided the perfect training ground for their photography. At the end of 2005, they travelled to Jiuzhaigou, China to photograph the national park in autumn. A return trip in 2006 to indulge in wandering historic Italian towns and driving around the countryside of Tuscany & Umbria helped consolidate skills in travel photography. When living at home in Australia, Kah Kit exclusively photographs landscapes. Most of this portfolio features the spectacularly varied landscapes of the island state of Tasmania and the coastline of his home state, Victoria. Wide-angles are often used in his work to create a dramatic perspective to give the viewer a special sense of immediacy. People who have inspired him include : Galen Rowell, Chris Bell, Peter Dombrovskis, Joe Cornish, Charlie Waite and Marc Adamus. WINNIE HO Born in Melbourne 1977, Winnie Ho is a doctor training in the field of endocrinology. She accompanies Kah Kit Yoong on their overseas trips and on some landscape shoots in Australia. An avid traveller since she can remember,...

I will always remember the early days of my passion for photography when I would wait to borrow my father s camera and go exploring the local streets for interesting things to photograph. I also remember how simple those days were - a basic SLR, a roll of slide film, and a trip to the local store for developing the photos. Even when I entered photography professionally and began to specialise in high quality black and white printing, the technical side of photography was still quite straight forward. Now with the onset of the exciting world of digital photography, so many...
