The Bloody Bay Wall Mural Project

A life-size underwater image 20 feet high by 70 feet wide produced by photographer Jim Hellemn. National Geographic October 2001 - portrait of a coral reef. Jim Hellemn creates unique and beautiful marine images, often using specialized equipment and techniques he has developed himself to stretch beyond the normal bounds of underwater photography. His extreme resolution image of Bloody Bay Wall in the Cayman Islands is a life size image of a coral reef stretching over 60 feet in width. Jim has been involved in photography for over 25 years, ranging from commercial studio photography to scientific applications using high-speed cameras and x-rays. He won a Kodak Impact Through Applied Photography award for outstanding technical achievement in research-related photography. Jim became interested in underwater photography in the mid-eighties and now focuses on using new technologies such as digital imaging to explore new ways to capture the magic of the underwater world. Jim s photographs have appeared in numerous publications including Underwater Systems Design, Sport Diver and National Geographic Magazine.
