Bangor and North Down Camera Club was formed in 1960 and celebrated its 47th anniversary as a club in May 2007. The Club currently has a membership of sixty + persons, coming mostly from Bangor and the North Down locality, but also Newtownards,Comber, Newtownabbey and Belfast and other locations as far afield as Armagh. Bangor is a seaside resort and the major town of North Down in the province of Northern Ireland. Other areas of North Down include Holywood, Crawfordsburn, Groomsport, Craigantlet and Orlock. The Club meets formally on Friday evenings from 7.45pm during September to May. Wednesday evenings are used for practical workshops and tutorials and useful for networking. Informal meetings continue throught the year on Wednesdays. The Club organises regular competitions for black & white prints (Lindsay Orr Trophy), Colour prints (Foundation and Advanced sections) and 35mm slides. Near the end of the formal season an Exhibition Competition is held and the winners and place taker's photographs are exhibited in local centres for public viewing. In addition prints of camera club members will represent the area at Northern Ireland Inter-Club competitions, the Celtic Challenge, Northern Ireland Photographic Association (NIPA) and further to UK wide via PAGB and internationally via FIAP and the RPS.
