Lost America: Wheels

Lost America: Wheels

Troy Paiva is a commercial artist living in the San Francisco Bay Area. For his entire adult life he has been an abandonment explorer and back-roads wanderer, especially at night. Sneaking around in junkyards and dead roadside towns in the middle of the night, he was doing Urban Exploration years before the term even existed. In the late 80 s, he sat in on a few night photography classes and when the subject of light-painting came up briefly, he had a revelation. Here were techniques that were perfect to capture the atmosphere and mystery of these modern ghost towns. The time-exposures allow the stars to spiral in space and the clouds to smear ethereally across the sky. Through the 90s he developed and perfected his technique of simple, yet effective, hand-held lighting. Since 1998 lostamerica.com has been online in one form or another. Over the past 9 years his low cost high impact lighting techniques have been implemented by amateur and professional photographers all over the world. Many of the places and objects in these photos are already gone; bulldozed, burned down, subdivided, melted for scrap or just vanished under the shifting desert sand. In 2003, his book Lost America was published by Motorbooks International, receiving positive reviews in newspapers and magazines worldwide. With over 145 color and black & white images and 4 in-depth essays, it examines the evolution and eventual abandonment of the communities, structures and social iconography spawned during...

International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum at Science Museum - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma USA

The Hall of Fame is the result of a project began in 1965 by the Photographic Art and Science Foundation. Members of the Professional Photographers of America originally created the foundation to promote photographic history by inducting historically significant photographers and inventors into a Photography Hall of Fame. However, no physical structure existed to commemorate Hall of Fame inductees or to display the Foundation s photographic and historical resources. After twelve years of receiving unique prints and antique camera equipment from across the country, the foundation chose to exhibit the growing collection. The original Photography Hall of Fame opened in 1977 as part of the University Museums at the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. In 1983 the International Photography Hall of Fame & Museum moved from the Brooks Institute to the Kirkpatrick Center in Oklahoma City. Since first opening our doors on July 15, 1983 the Hall of Fame has traced the art, history and technology of image making. Today over 500 artists and several thousand photographs represent the Hall of Fame s permanent collection.

The following pages are designed for dog show information and photography tips ..... Alex & Sherryl Smith have been full time photographers since 1982. We are a full time service organization with a photographic studio and complete custom laboratory on site. We specialize in dogs, especially purebreds, but also photograph cats and other animals. Our large studio is helpful in accomodating large family groups and medium-sized commercial/industrial product shots. Our Epson Pro 7600 is designed to produce prints, in house, up to 24" by any length. We can print from computer files or scan prints from negatives and print any size up to 24" . We also have several portable digital printers which allow us to produce 8" x 10" sheets of prints, with a combination of sizes, while on location.Because we do all our own work, from taking the photograph to the final printing, we have the ultimate quality control, and a faster turn around time than do most photographers in the business. In addition to regular photographic work, we do digital restoration, retouching (manual & digital), airbrushing, and framing.
