Thomas Regnery - Die Carl-Sagan-Sternwarte

... Nach einem fast 20 Jahre dauerndem Wunschtraum konkretisieren sich die Pläne zum Bau einer eigenen Sternwarte im Winter 2000/2001. Die Idee eines zweiteiligen Häuschens mit Observationsraum und Abstellraum steht von Anfang an fest. Die westliche Grundstücksgrenze verläuft exakt in Nord-Süd-Richtung, somit wird die Dachöffnung der Sternwarte optimal positioniert sein. Besonders viel Hirnschmalz floss in die Planung der zentralen Standsäule, die einerseits dem Teleskop einen Blick bis nahe an den Südhorizont ermöglichen sollte, anderseits das Gerät aber so tief im Raum halten sollte, dass der Beobachter möglichst immer vor direkter Beleuchtung von den umliegenden Häusern und Straßenlaternen geschützt ist. Eine Lage in der Ortschaft hat eben ihre Nachteile, doch zumindest waren die meisten davon von Beginn an klar.

Our Gallery contains over two thousand images, but we have more than 250,000 in inventory. We have been published in airline magazines, The Picture Professional, Birder s World, National Wildlife, Backpacker, The Loon the official publication of the Minnesota Ornithologists Union , Minnesota Cities Magazine, the publications of the Colorado and Voyager Outward Bound Schools, Outward Bound International, The Wisconsin Breeding Bird Atlas, and in numerous advertising and promotional materials. Our art images include Saint Paul churches and historic buildings and the ice castles of the Saint Paul winter celebration. Our architectural images have been used by the Minnesota Club, the Landmark Center, the Minnesota Historical Society and a variety of commercial enterprises in Minnesota. Our high speed, in-flight photos of song birds have won a National Wildlife contest and been featured in Birder s World, National Wildlife and the Picture Professional. In addition to the still images available here, we also have thousands of feet of 16 mm film and digital video images, some of which have been used in videos of the National Parks. This footage includes rafting footage taken from the raft in most of the class 7 to 10 rapids in the Grand Canyon during three trips between 1985 and 1999.

Award-winning landscape photographer from Fresno, CA.Photoshop CS3/4, Lightroom instructorI've been backpacking and photographing the High Sierra for 28 years. My work has appeared in National Geographic, Outdoor Photographer, Sports Illustrated, Digital Photo Pro,and many other publications. Yosemite National Park is a west facing park, and the light is best during late afternoon and sunset. During the summer, we will be shooting sunsets until 8:30 and 9pm, sometimes at Glacier Point, which is an hour's drive from Yosemite Valley. We often do not get into bed until 11pm or midnight. Night shooting adventures can keep us out until the wee hours if people want, so getting up at 5am is almost never an option.
