Fred Stein s photographs capture powerful images of the struggle and beauty of human life - images that transcend the cultural moment: the romance of street life in 1930 s Paris; the energy of New York during and just after World War II; and hundreds of compelling portraits of the most brilliant minds of the time. In the words of Herman Wouk: Fred Stein has recorded the central years of our century with a flood of pictorial impressions, and a multitude of faces, famous and anonymous, which will illuminate the period forever. - Stein died in 1967 at the age of 58. His portraits and reportage had appeared in newspapers, magazines, and books throughout the world. He had also lectured and had held a number of one-man exhibitions. Seven books of his work have been published. During his lifetime his work received favorable critical attention, and the scope and power of his work are now gaining wide recognition.

In the beginning my interest in Japanese photography was focussed on modern photography of the 1920s and 1930s and I did a research about this period during an 18 months stay in Japan at the end 1990s. During this stay I met many younger photographers and soon I became fascinated by the contemporary photography scene in Tokyo.

Alpa Reflex Cameras from Switzerland
The main goal of this web site is to share information about Alpa Reflex cameras with all web participants and to ask collectors to provide any information that will help complete the Alpa history. The story of the Alpa Cameras starts with a Ukrainian engineer and designer named Jacques Bogopolsky, based in Geneva, who developed a 35mm cine camera aimed at the growing amateur cine market. The design was patented in 1924 as the BOL-Cinegraphe. However as the popularity of sub standard film gauges took favour, Jacques produced a 16mm camera, the Auto Cine camera. This was the first product sold under the Bolex name. In 1930 Jacques sold the business to Paillard, of Switzerland, which was founded in 1814 by Moises Paillard making musical box movements. At the end of the nineteenth century the Paillard family joined the Thorens family by marriage and started producing phonographs, gramophones, clockwork motors and typewriters....

Nahost - Ausstellungen: Lehnert & Landrock.
